A multitude of players have dazzled at Euro 2024, but the question remains: will any of these stars be relocating during this transfer window?
Euro 2024 provided a prime stage for players to showcase their skills, with the transfer market open until August 30 in most of Europe’s elite leagues. The tournament has historically served as a springboard for transfers, such as Cody Gakpo’s move to Liverpool following his stellar performances for the Netherlands, and Enzo Fernandes securing a £107m transfer to Chelsea after being named the young player of the tournament at the 2022 World Cup.
Florian Wirtz (Germany)
Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen’s 21-year-old midfield prodigy, played a pivotal role in Germany’s journey to the quarter-finals on home soil. Recognized as one of the nation’s most promising talents, Wirtz has consistently impressed in the Bundesliga. Although his contract with Leverkusen extends until 2027, the club is keen to retain him. Nonetheless, the allure of top-tier clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona looms large, though his father and agent have dismissed the possibility of a summer move.
Marc Guehi (England)
In the absence of the injured Harry Maguire, Marc Guehi, a 24-year-old defender for Crystal Palace, has risen to the occasion for England. His partnership with John Stones has been instrumental, following a standout season in the Premier League. Guehi, who signed a five-year deal with Palace in 2021, has attracted attention from major English clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly interested. Palace may face a tough battle to keep hold of their star defender.
Xavi Simons (Netherlands)
Despite facing criticism from the Dutch media during Euro 2024, 21-year-old Paris St-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons played a crucial role in guiding the Netherlands to the semi-finals. His stunning goal against England has only fueled speculation about a potential departure from PSG. Premier League giants Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle are among the clubs linked with Simons. Having spent the previous season on loan at RB Leipzig, there are rumors that PSG may consider another loan move, potentially with an obligation to buy.
Nico Williams (Spain)
Athletic Bilbao’s 22-year-old winger, Nico Williams, was a standout performer at Euro 2024. He played a key role in Spain’s victory over Italy and delivered impressive performances throughout the tournament, including a brilliant finish in the final against England. Williams has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, who reportedly view him as a top priority this summer.
Joshua Kimmich (Germany)
Joshua Kimmich, the 29-year-old Bayern Munich full-back, has been a cornerstone of Germany’s squad for years. After nine seasons with Bayern, Kimmich’s future is now the subject of speculation. With just one year remaining on his contract, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City are reportedly interested in acquiring his services. Rumors suggest he could be available for around £40m.
Riccardo Calafiori (Italy)
Riccardo Calafiori, a 22-year-old defender for Bologna, has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. Following Italy’s early exit from the tournament, Calafiori has reportedly engaged in talks with the Gunners. His career has seen stints with FC Basel, Roma, and a loan spell at Genoa, and now a move to the Premier League could be on the horizon.
Georgiy Sudakov (Ukraine)
Shakhtar Donetsk’s 21-year-old midfielder, Georgiy Sudakov, has spent his entire career in Ukraine but may soon venture abroad. Chelsea is reportedly in pursuit, with the Ukrainian club potentially demanding up to £65m for the player. Despite starting all of Ukraine’s group matches, Sudakov could not propel his team into the knockout stages. Nevertheless, he has garnered interest from Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
Dani Olmo (Spain)
Dani Olmo, a 26-year-old attacking midfielder for RB Leipzig, finished Euro 2024 with three goals and two assists, making a strong case for a potential transfer. Although he struggled to break into Spain’s starting XI in the group stage, Olmo shone during the knockout rounds. Several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, have been linked with Olmo, who reportedly has a £50m release clause expiring on July 20.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Georgia)
Georgia’s 23-year-old forward, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, emerged as a formidable threat during Euro 2024 and has reportedly caught the attention of Paris Saint-Germain. However, Napoli, where Kvaratskhelia currently plays, has placed a steep valuation of €100m (£85.2m) on him, which may deter PSG. Liverpool has also been linked with the player, but Napoli manager Antonio Conte has downplayed the likelihood of a summer departure.
